Château Mouton Rothschild

CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTCHSCHILD

In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton and soon renamed it Château Mouton Rothschild. One particular member of the family, Baron Philippe, has become synonymous with this wine since he took charge of the estate in 1922. It was Barone Philippe who pioneered the policy of performing all bottling operations on site at the château (1924), starting the tradition of labelling the Mouton Rothschild with its own individual label that same year. From 1945 onwards, some of the most famous painters of the 20th century have been invited to contribute a design for the top part of the label.

Baron Philippe's greatest achievement remains the estate's classification as a Premier Cru Classé in 1973. He died in 1988, leaving his daughter Philippine in charge of these 78 hectares of wines.

The estate is planted with 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, producing wines which are complex and voluptuous, with a unique elegance.
