Château Latour

CHÂTEAU LATOUR

A Premier Cru Classé en 1855, Latour was acquired by the Segur family in the late seventeenth century. The Château's reputation grew steadily in the 19th century.

The Marquis de Segur sold his share of the estate in 1963, and after a period under the ownership of two British companies Latour passed back into French hands in 1993, when it was acquired by François Pinault.

Latour is one of the most consistent elite estates, producing outstanding wines in the lesser years as well as the classic vintages.

The vineyards are planted in 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, producing wines which are powerful, tannic, rich, dense and intense. The exceptional tannic profile means that the wines can be a little tough in their youth, and a good Latour will sometimes require many years of ageing before its tannins soften.
